The Jeep's loaded up and ready for action! This will be the maiden voyage for my new axle shaft!

The truck sat on jackstands for a month while I tried to locate some 297x style axle shafts. But There were none to be found and I didn't want to wait any longer. So I just replace the broken axle with a junkyard 260x shaft.

The start of "Twister" which is a course that does just that to your diff's.
More Twister.
...yet, still more...
... Twister.
I was looking for "Saturday Night Live" when I came across "Politician". Politician is rated 3 out of a possible 5 diamond.
Moments before the fate of my rear Detroit locker was determined.
The scenery on this trail is spectacular. Aaron and I decided to take a breather here to soak up some shade.
Just as we're slowly approaching the last 40 yards of the trail, it happens. I was attempting to "bump" up a ledge and hear an all too familiar "POP!" Just then I realized that I had just broken my rear axle! Here you can see me walking back down the hill after securing my winchline to a tree.
The view down the hill. The photos do not due the hill justice. It was very steep and kinda tricky getting around.
In the foreground of this photo, you can see the culprit. This is not a very serious ledge, but it was enough to break my rear axle shaft.
Same ledge, different angle.
I was still able to drive the Jeep, but I went ahead and winched most of the way up.
Up and out.
Looking back down the hill that claimed my axle shaft and cut my 4-wheeling short.
Ahhhhh, my home away from home. The lovely Gilmer Inn.
All loaded, and ready for my 4.5 hour drive back to Austin.
